Careers at Krum It's about more than code. Find your place with others committed to developing opportunity and purpose.

TLDR; We enjoy building cool stuff & working hard. We’re looking for a designer up to the challenge of helping us build our growing design department, and continue to build top-tier applications for our customers and the world.

Krumware is a Columbia, SC (USA) company founded in early 2016. Our all-production team has a mission of providing enterprises, developers, and creators with tools to shorten or eliminate technology learning curves and enable easier, faster, and more efficient application development. We embrace an open and collaborative environment, and our team is dedicated to delivering top-quality solutions while maintaining a fun, comfortable, and entrepreneurial (no red tape) culture.

UI/UX Designers: As a UI/UX designer, your primary role will be to implement great user experiences for our customers. You will work directly with our clients and end-users to deliver usable, responsive, and visually appealing design solutions. You will also work closely with our internal product teams to ensure the successful delivery and execution of your ideas.

Krum team members are often required to think critically and leave their comfort zones to research, build, and test complex design problems to provide dynamic solutions. Ideal applicants are challenge-driven, learn-by-doing, respond well to change, are thought leaders, can work independently, have a positive and proactive attitude, and communicate effectively with clients and developers. Candidates are expected to jump into a fast-paced development environment and contribute immediately. This requires 3-5 years of professional experience in this or a similar role.

Role and responsibilities

  • Create “mobile-in-mind” strategies and design executions (designing effective solutions for both mobile and desktop)
  • Communicate with clients and research as needed to understand problems and identify and design effective solutions
  • Gather User Requirements and collaborate with clients and other team members for evaluation.
  • Work with product teams to ensure effective delivery of design solutions
  • Be able to design within project constraints (budget, timeline, resources, etc.)
  • Building low-fidelity wireframes and turning them into high-fidelity mockups
  • Be able to assist and drive complete product design life-cycles
  • Present creative concepts to team members, clients, and prospects
  • Contribute to the development of the creative team’s culture and quality standards
  • Be an effective problem solver and translate ideas into creative solutions
  • Help create Design Standards, Processes, and Procedures for future team members

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study (or comparable experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience designing interfaces for native, responsive web (in-house or agency)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Proficiency with Figma or other relevant UI/UX Design Software (we primarily use Figma)
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized (Naming layers, grouping elements in design documents, pixel-perfect design)
  • Experience with Component Driven Design and Design Systems
  • Ability to take and give effective, constructive criticism
  • We work in bi-weekly “sprint-style” timelines, so the ability to note changes and move swiftly helps
  • Strong background in typography and building typographic hierarchy
  • Experience designing native mobile apps (while we don’t build for native, the web platform is increasingly mobile)
  • Ability to speak confidently with clients to understand their problems and present your solutions to meet their needs
  • Understanding and keeping pace with current design and technology trends (continuous skills improvement)
  • Ability to work with the Marketing and Product teams to drive branding efforts and other internal projects

Not required, but bonus points

  • Experience building branding/identity systems, event marketing/collateral
  • Experience with basic frontend knowledge (HTML/CSS) and working together with engineers (Hands-on code is not a requirement, but it could be useful)
  • Experience building animations in design prototypes (using After Effects, Hype, or similar)

For all positions, candidates must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain DoD security clearances if required. Existing clearance is a plus. DoD 8570 and related certifications are also a plus, but not required.
